Scaddan Residence
Project: | New Residence |
Location: | Scaddan, Western Australia |
Date: | May 2005 |
Project Architect: | Fiona Hogg |
Description: Located on a rural property to the north of Esperance this residence responds to the sweeping views over the surrounding farmland and to the bush beyond. Difficult site conditions resulted in an elevated framed floor and use of both lightweight stud frame and rammed earth walls. Utilising a long narrow floor plan cranked around a north facing terrace and outdoor living areas. Rammed earth walls provide the thermal mass to the residence with winter sun penetration through plentiful glazing to the north including high level windows to provide deep solar penetration of the residence in winter months. Use of a limited palette of materials including rammed earth, western red cedar frames to doors/ windows and Zincalume custom orb to both roof and lightweight external walls provides both a response to site and the architectonics of rural building forms. Internally recycled wandoo floors are used throughout the residence and act in concert with the exposed internal rammed earth walls and cedar windows have been complement with neutral colours to provide a warm, natural ambience. |
